My sister Doreen and I did a day trip from North Hatley to Montreal. The first order of business
when we got to Montreal was for me to go bike riding and Doreen went shopping. My ride was along
the waterfront. I started where Avenue Atwater crosses over the old canal
on the north/west side of St Laurence and headed north/east towards the Old Port of
Montreal, going as far as the Clock Tower on the Clock Tower Pier.
The following two pictures where taken from there.
After that, I back tracked a bit to the Pont de la Concorde bridge and crossed over to the
Ile de Notre Dame, where I had a chance to ride my bike on the
Formula 1 circuit in Montreal.
I didn't quit get up to the speed that the Formula 1 cars go, but it was neat just the same to
be able to ride the circuit.
On the way to the Pont de la Concorde bridge I passed by one of the few big ships in Montreal
that day and the world famous Habitat '67 apartment complex.
By the time I got about 3/4 of the way around the Formula 1 circuit in Montreal,
Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve,
it started to rain and that wasn't good
because by this point in time I was miles from my Jeep. It looked like the rain was going to settle in
for a while, so I started heading back towards my Jeep. By the time I got to the Port Champlain bridge
it was puring, so I hung out there with a few other folks. The picture below shows how the visibility
was obscured by the rain.
After about 20 minutes the rain let up quite a bit, so I got on my bike headed for my Jeep - in
case it was only a temporary relief. Fortunately, by the time I got to the
small bridge to the south/west of the Port Champlain bridge it cleared
up completely. The storm had moved off to the south as show below.
By that time it was clear and sunny to the north as we see here in this shot of Nuns Island.
I crossed over Nuns Island and headed west far enough to see the rapids on the St Lawrence river
before heading back to my Jeep.
Shortly after I got back to my Jeep, I met up with Doreen and we headed to Old Montreal where we spent
the rest of the day. All of the remaining pictures on this page, except the last one, where taken in
old Montreal. The first is another shot of the world famous Habitat '67 apartment complex.
This building is the Montreal Customs House made famous in the movie The Score.
This is the remains of the Montreal General Hospital built in 1693.
The following two pictures are just some buildings I thought were interesting.

Another more complete picture of the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
The following are a couple pictures taken inside the Notre-Dame Cathedral.

One of the many interesting sites one sees when wondering through old Montreal.
The Clock Tower on the Clock Tower Pier. The first couple pictures on this page were taken
from the base of the tower.

Another building used in the movie The Score. The is the place where Nick picks up his paper at
the start of the movie.
Again, just a few more interesting sites one sees when wondering through old Montreal.
Note how the remains off an older building were preserved in the construction of the
current building.
